The English Premier league is widely known for its involvement with three different championships; The League Cup, The FA Cup and The FA Community Shield. The League Cup is single elimination tournament that includes all English Premier League teams. The FA Cup is the oldest association football tournament in the world and also operates as a knockout cup competition. The FA Community Shield is a single game held every year that matches the League Cup winner and the FA Cup winner against each other. If the same team holds both titles, the League runners-up are included.
The English Premier League currently has 20 football clubs participating in games. The teams have no salary caps which have encouraged extremely lucrative contracts with players. These players are considered to be the most talented and recognizable in the world and have provided a high level of competition for the teams that they play on. There are four football club in The English Premier League that have been very successful and dominant since the creation of the league. These “Big 4” teams became super clubs starting in the early-2000’s. Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal have a combined 19 championships in 21 seasons and have finished First, Second, Third and Fourth in 1997/98, 2003/04, 2005/06, 2006/07, 2007/08 and 2008/09. Manchester United has finished no lower than third place since 1992 and has won a total of 13 English Premier League Championship titles. Manchester City and Tottenham have become strong contenders since 2009.
